I think it can't be more obvious. Here it just means a gay marriage of two men.

In the first scenario it's "two mommies", and in the second it's "two daddies". But instead of saying "two daddies" the author thinks he'd better practise a little literary license and say it differently, ie "daddie and his husband-roommate".
