“go to the cinema” vs. "go to school"
查遍longman5 extra examples,和两千英文名著，竟然没有一个"go to cinema"的例子。看来“go to the cinema”才是准确的。
而“go to school" vs. "go to the school"中学教的倒没错。

When you use 'go to cinema' you mean any cinema in general ,the concept of going to a movie theatre and watching a movie as in :
" Why do people like to go to cinema?"
If you are more specific and mention that you are going to watch a movie in the cinema and you certainly mean a certain movie and cinema in this case you say:

这个是生造出来的句子，我没在文学作品中找到哪怕一个例子。
包括longman5 13０Ｍ的句库。相反"go to the cinema"无穷多。 语料库（http://corpus.byu.edu/）中搜索结果：
COCA、BNC两个英语语料库都搜不到“go to cinema”
最大的语料库GloWbE倒是能搜到：
"go to the cinema" 出现 448 次（US 33 次，GB 226 次）
"go to cinema" 出现 30 次（US 2 次，GB 7 次）
有一个英国《卫报》上的例句：
