adoptive 给人的第一印象是可以和 father, mother, parents 连用：养父、养母、养父母。或者后接 son，daughter，child，children：养子，养女。经查阅词典，的确很多词典都给出了类似的例证。但是上面的 adoptive sister 还是感觉怪怪的，主要是从汉语来讲，收养我的姐姐/和我有收养关系的姐姐/我的养姐姐。在不借助搜索引擎与在线语料库的情形下，只查阅手头的词典，发现只有 Shorter Oxford English Dictionary 6th 给出了类似的例证：
adoptive brother, adoptive child, adoptive father, adoptive mother, adoptive sister, etc.
另外一个是 Oxford Collocations Dictionary for students of English 2nd ：
Adoptive is used with these nouns: family, father, mother, parent, sibling, sister
最后一个不能算是词典 VDex_8.4-20150727：
165. Dees’ mother died when he was 13, said Lena Walker, of Minneapolis, who was an adoptive sister of the young man.

用中文翻一下,
adopted 是"收養回來的", 指的当然是子女,不是會是父母, 或者自己的兄弟姐妹等.
被收養的孩子, ,要描述他"透过这關係成為他親人"的人, 就得用上 adoptive "屬收養關係的"了.
對于洋人自己, 一般都只認得兩个都是和adopt有關的adjectives, 有些不去細想, 有些懂了又忘了/混淆了...
單詞, 往往是老外覺得烦的咱覺得不難, 老外誰都懂的, 咱有些一輩子沒見过 好书
