"which dictionary is your
quickest reference tool?"
"which is your most frequently consulted/often looked up dictionary?"
"what is your handy/close-at-hand/near-at-hand dict?"
"which dict do you always keep at hand for easy/quick reference?"
- for if u "scan" a dict, u either look at it carefully (as how most british ppl would understand it) or look go thru it cursorily (like how most yankee boys take it), but in either way, u read it almost from cover to cover in a wee greater detail than "skimming" and "browsing" the work.

是的，原来那个版本的med也不错，跳转什么的都很顺，可是就是没有保住med的最大特色。好像med能获奖多部分原因就是首创了这个signpost words栏目，后来朗文也部分采用了。多亏cjz抓取网页，这部分内容才成功保留下来。 论坛老吞我的回复，试试这样能不能发……

So they have been wrong all along and no one even cares?That's worrying, considering they have so many great reference works at their fingertips.
Anyway, the word "scan" really has no business in the description of how such pop-up dicts work - u get the quick definition bubble/window by "selecting"/"highlighting" the word u want!

Dreye5in1汉英部分和21世纪电脑英汉双向是一样的，但是反过来查英汉的时候，结果却不一样。
例如，按CE查“候鸟”，Dreye和21世纪电脑结果是一样的，都有migratory bird这个解释；反过来查migratory bird，Dreye有解释，而21世纪电脑没有解释。
是否因为21世纪的排版是这样的原因：migratory: a ~ bird 候鸟？ 有没有办法用headword替换这个~？

外研社二合一词典里面也有这种现象：查“装配”，下面有“~车间 assembly shop”，但是再查“装配车间”，二合一里面查不出来。或许是因为“装配车间”在里面不算词条的缘故吧？我不是很懂。

不知L大对这两个词典有什么看法，我有时在这两个词典之间难以选择保留哪一个做取词用。
我用的美国传统，符合美语习惯。 COD or PCOD 往往是精华的总结 Thanks alot Thanks alot
