新牛津二疑似错误的例句



图片中的例句是在查year这个条目中出现的例句。奇怪的是composure 前加了个a，查遍各大词典都说是个不可数名词。新牛津独家敢这么用？

composure在美式英语中可以有复数，后加s
新牛津2是美语词典NODE2nd的中译文，很多体现的是美语用法，wiktionary2016也能查到composure做复数加s

例句没问题。此处a的用法见朗文当代5，a词条第10个解释：used before nouns that are usually uncountable when other information about the quality, feeling etc is added by an adjective, phrase, or clause 〔用于有形容词、短语或从句修饰的不可数名词前〕
参：Candidates must have a good knowledge of chemistry. 求职者必须精通化学。

Composure是可以用作可数的，不过用的比较少：

感谢大家的热心回复！我查了下OED3就是论坛下载的（不常用），的确是美式用法， 可以有单复数。而且例句与新牛津2一模一样。

应该是一种语法现象，不可数名词前加a，一般该名词前或后应该有修饰语，有时也没有。见图。（截图自《A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language》）

一、可数、不可数究竟是什么意思？

What is a count noun and what a non-count noun？

名词的数是几乎每一本几乎英语语法概论都会讲到的问题。英语母语者很少在这个问题上犯错误或感到困惑，但是中国学英语的人往往被这个问题困扰。学汉语的英语者也常常是同样的情况。

The number of English nouns is discussed in almost every convey of English grammar.Actually, native English speakers make few mistakes and seldom feel confused about it, while Chinese-speaking English learners are subject to troubles using the correct form of a noun.It's the same when an English-speaking person comes across some usage problems of Chinese.

那么，可数、不可数究竟谁什么意思呢？英语者是如何判断一个名词（某个义项，或某语境下）是否可数的呢？

So what is a coun noun and what a non-count one? Or, What do the English-speaking people dicide the countability of a noun( in a certain sense, or a specific context) basing on?

If you try to find an answer in the English grammars,I'm afraid you'll most likely be disappointed: they even do not pose this question! The reason probably is that in their mind it is not a problem at all.

So we--- non-English speaking people have to dig into the mystery and find it out.
