例句的选择没有意义
虽然是大牌词典，但我还是觉得选择这样的例句没有意义。 感觉词典例句应该分为2种，反正已经电子化了，容量篇幅不是问题，分为第一是写作的例句，简单一点，学习后可以模仿说或写，其次是仅看懂的例句，复杂一点，最好是现实中复杂的句子，看懂就行，有利于阅读实际读物。 这个标题吓到我了23333。。。不过说实话楼主还想要啥样的例句？有例句起码比没有强。另外也靠这个知道了它可以作定语（好牵强的说） afreeelf 发表于 2018-2-4 17:20这个标题吓到我了23333。。。不过说实话楼主还想要啥样的例句？有例句起码比没有强。另外也靠这个知道了它 ...

这种长度的例句oed最常见，学习词典少见{:4_99:}，虽然也不算多难

我也觉得。以前我一直认为柯林斯词典的例句最长最难，因此最好。
但是现在我认为柯林斯那种长例句意义并不大，例句是没有上下文的，如果没有汉语释义，可能以帮助使用者熟悉单词用法为目的的例句都看不懂，还谈什么熟悉单词用法。

追忆似水年华英译本里面一句话据说可能好几页。百年孤独也有七八百单词的。不过这两本书现在也不能说是最好的书，更不是最受欢迎的书。 刚读到这里的第二个例句就挺长的。但是写的很好。 楼主觉得那句例句不好应该是因为例句没有反映出单词的意思吧。那一句就是套上别的字也不会违和，像是：
...the belligerent Russian President 确实这个例子不太好，出了表明是个形容词外，没有告诉读者更多信息，而且可以换成任何一个可以形容人的形容词。
我认为一个好的例子，应当对所例释的词有一定的特异性、词义提示性。ODE的几个例子就好得多：
His mood was ebullient, and he had every reason to be satisfied. 这句表明“他”处在一种很容易满足的情绪中。
Anyway, she was a vivacious, ebullient sort of girl, and I took an immediate liking to her. 这句又表明ebullient和vivacious是近义词，而且是令人马上就会喜欢的性格。
好的例子未必要长，而是我上面说的两点：特异性、提示性。 《百年孤独》什么时候成最受欢迎的书了？在中国也不过是偶尔热一下，真正读过并且因为喜欢读才读的人也不知道有几个？你要是怀疑《百年孤独》不是最好的书，我倒是觉得还可以理解，毕竟《战争与和平》《卡拉马佐夫兄弟》《呼啸山庄》虽然很好，未必就比《百年孤独》更好，但是你要是说《百年孤独》很受欢迎，我是绝对不认可的，那种风格是不可能有很多人喜欢的，很多中国人读也不过是听说很多人读不下去自己想试一试罢了。
这例句还算不错了，我大致记得某一本国产词典，有如下例句。
假设是 ebullient 条吧，例句是这样的 ebullient is a difficult/long word 。。。。。
