一个定冠词使用的问题。

Jupiter, the closest of the giant planets to Earth, has no solid surface and is surrounded by (the) zones of intense radiation.

看到了这样一句话，括号位置的the原文是没有的。

我想为什么没有呢？如果我加上会是错误么？

个人认为加上the就变成了特指，感觉就好象zones of intense radiation是个独一无二的地名一样
