    It may mean "million" here.

& n' S# y8 G6 \Sometimes English speakers will say "Ok, I'll give you 5g for that car"; g meaning "grand", slang for 1,000; so 5G is 5,000 dollars.  But I wouldn't say it's common to say "5m perday" for "5 million per day". It's perfectly understandable when you have read the entire context, though.

    看了一下前后文,虽然数字很吓人,不过感觉5m a day就是说单日新增500w的意思。

I must admit I was a bit surprised that such abbreviation could appear in a piece of writing that is supposed to be formal. The English language is deteriorating for sure, so is journalism nowadays. Everything is becoming fastfood-ish.

Be that as it may, I would suggest that we as learners should stick to our ground and try our best o use formal and proper English; the least of that are spellings and punctuation marks.   j* F' m* W: _" v. K
