下面这个用法说明，这里 http://www.collinsdictionary.com ... uild-learners/until & http://www.collinsdictionary.com ... build-learners/till 并没有，不知道具体出自哪个版本？

You can see how this could have grown up, but the truth of the matter is that till is by far the older word, being recorded from about the year 800, while it took another 400 years for until to appear in the language (it’s a compound of till with the archaic Old Norse und, as far as, which also survives in the archaic unto). But the first sense of till was to, as it still can be, for example, in Scots and some dialects. Though the modern sense of till in standard English is always connected with time, this only appeared about 1300.

柯林斯词典的英文释义采用整句释义。这一特点，我最初很不习惯。我以为，词典篇幅寸土寸金，编者惜墨如金；用完整句子释义，太奢侈了。后来我才发现，人家这样做用心良苦，是为了将单词或短语置于其使用环境之中，令用法一目了然。这是“授人以渔”的一个显著特点。整句的释义完全可以当作一个例句来看，而且是最典型、最生动的例句。

额，我就是看词典，发现个有意思可能其他人也感兴趣的地方，顺手截图发个帖。
关于这个帖呢，我其实最感兴趣的不是 until 的用法，而是《柯林斯COBUILD高阶英汉双解学习词典》里 Usage Note 的来源，因为原版 COBUILD 词典并没有主贴所示的 Usage Note 。
昨晚又查了下，发现序言里已经提到“柯林斯公司专门组织英语专家编写了适合中国学习者的词语用法辨析专栏（Usage Note）。这是原来英文版所没有的，但对中国学习者来说就十分有用。” 这 Usage Note 应该是 Collins COBUILD English Usage. (1992, 2004) 的改进版。

再说 until 的用法，主贴里给了 OALD、CALD、MED 的释义、例句，可以看到《柯林斯COBUILD高阶英汉双解学习词典》有关 until 后面不能跟 place 这一点，偏 prescriptive ，实际上 OALD9、CALD4 的until 条就有 until 后跟地名的例子，MED 则直接在释义里提到 continuing as far as a particular place 。

   虽然我注册这个网站大约也就两个半月，我已清楚感到网友对你(Oeasy)的好评如潮。xiaokeai 在3楼的点评是赞美你和你的主帖的，而我的这个帖子是对他/她点评的质疑，你却主动迅速回复我，实事求是的讲述了有关情况，这表明了你的人品------清醒、理智、不求虚荣。你是块做学问的料。
   你的主贴见网大约10来分钟后，我读到了。我对其中的 until 用法问题特别感兴趣，因为 柯林斯双解 反复强调的错误用法，恰恰就是OALD、CALD 和 MED 里的正确用法，双方“针锋相对”，“水火不容”的态势极大地激发了我的兴趣。我肯定双方都正确，也试图寻找一个合理的解释，但没找到。直到看到 elusty 在2楼的跟帖，我才惊喜的说：“原来如此！谢谢 Oeasy 的问，elusty 的答。"
   “大疑则大悟，小疑则小悟，不疑则不悟”，没有你最初揭示出来的“疑”，就不会有网友们后来的“悟”，所以，我完全同意 elusty 的话：“感谢O版引导我们学习。” 当然，elusty "碰巧搜到"(4楼 elusty语)那个合理解释，对于大家的“悟”所做出的贡献，同样功不可没。
   能提出有一定深度问题的学生，肯定是学习好的学生，这是不争的事实。

   第一次看到 xiaokeai 在3楼的点评时，我感到莫名其妙，我认真地向 xiaokeai 发帖，小心求证关于你已经在发主贴的“同時把答案陳列(3楼 xiaokeai 语)”其中的文字依据，我白等了两天。今天我才突然明白，我又犯了过度认真的毛病，世界本身就是半认真半不认真的，做人岂能事事认真！

这种细微处的用法的确挺有意思。查了一下朗文系的学习词典，还是避免until和地点直接连用的。OALD其实用了个讨巧的办法，注明until London等于until you reach London，指明until在这里还是强调时间的概念，并不等同于强调距离概念的as far as，个人认为更胜一筹。
