consult lawyers or consult with lawyers
本帖最后由 Littlebush 于 2016-11-21 10:14 编辑近期的NYT有这么一个句子Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has consulted with lawyers about the possibility of joining the new administration, a move that could run afoul of federal nepotism laws and would all but certainly invite legal challenges. 印象中consult doctor/lawyer等professional的时候应该是vt，查词典也是vt，那么这个consult with 是否属于误用？BTW，英语中的名词的数和动词的及物或非及物确实让人头痛。 consult 做及物动词是“咨询”，做不及物动词是“商量”，楼主又不查词典{:4_109:} 本帖最后由 spearonsquare 于 2016-11-21 12:46 编辑

嗯，开始没查朗文，正确的usage应该是做查词典、地图等时时vt，做咨询、商量解时vt vi均可以，还可以这么理解，如果consult的是sb，vt vi均可以，consult的是sth，例如dictionary、map etc，vt，简单准确。 consult with 是属于北美用法 petergaoshanwei 发表于 2016-11-21 15:40

区别其实很微弱，也可以说没有区别。真正的要害在于：当做seek professional advice or discuss with sb to make a decision这2个意思解的时候，consult 或 consult with均可以，consult with也并非北美用法，我也经常看到美国的医学方面的报道用的consult your doctor这样的说法，btw，有人说doctor是英国的用法，美国说physician，但其实并非如此，美国也经常说doctor。All in all，语言这玩意很多时候没有特比clear-cut的distinction，这给user造成很大的困扰。
