as 作连词表“尽管”的意思。

书中读到了关于婚姻的一段话。出现了2个as 连用的句子，开始还以为是“和... ... 一样”的那条词义。但实际不是。
我研究后发现
这里的as作连词，是“尽管”的意思，相当于although.
be fond of 本应是固定表达，但由于as表"尽管”这个意思的使用规则，fond被提前到句首。由此成了原文中的句子形式。
实际相当于: Although(As) Katie and I were fond of each other, I avoided...
另外，第一个as 如果去掉句子仍然正确。Fond as Katie and I were of each other, ...
但是句首再加一个as，句子也是正确的。

在peu(practical English usage)中找到这么一句 As fond as Katie and I were of each other, …
We can parse theas...as structure in the sentence as this:
As ( =So adv.) fond as ( = though conj.) Katie and I were of each other... 就是as引导的形式倒装，一般可把主语表语等提前，是让步状语从句
