插入语 however obvious 是不是多余的

我理解的 however 是转折的意思, 但是这里并没有啊, 感觉没有这个 however obvious 更通顺 However obvious = although it is quite obvious.
这个插入语不是多于的，是作者用于软化自己语气的。作者刚要指出大家注意到的第一件事，然后加上“当然啦，这一点很显然”，言外之意就是我不说你们也知道。
英文地道与否，往往体现在这些细小的地方。 however obvious that the coal is grimy, it is the first thing you notice? however obvious,无论多明显。

(adv) : used to say that it does not matter how big, good, serious etc something is because it will not change a situation in any way
eg ：You should report any incident, however minor it is.
The first thing you notice, however obvious (you notice it), is that coal is grimy.
是这样理解么？

however=no matter how 明显不是多余的，加强语气，有其自身存在的意义 可是， 这个加强语气也太奇怪了吧， 翻译成中文就成了 “无论煤多脏这件事情是有多显眼，你都一定会注意到”
除非是说 无论它有多不显眼， 你都一定会注意到它

在我看来，这里面的it指的是the first thing，也就是coal is grimy.
however obvious 意思就是“不管明显的程度如何”
为了理解起来更加通顺，可以这样翻译“不管明显与否，你所注意到的第一点就是煤又黑又脏。” 原来是这样， 感谢答疑
