破折号用法
本帖最后由 sabrina2111 于 2019-3-29 20:33 编辑Remember that I said to G -- on the first night he came here that the mystery might be a little too plain. (E.A.Poe)
这句话中的破折号看着有点怪,是不是因为作家年代久远的缘故?
我觉得该是:
Remember that I said to G -- on the first night he came here -- that the mystery might be a little too plain.
对不对?请教!
(不好意思,漏打一个the)
我觉得这里的on the first night he came here更像是插入语,不用一对破折号,至少要用一对逗号,不用一对逗号,至少要用一对括号。 没有什么为什么,你自己写作按规范的走就行了 黑色的天 发表于 2019-3-29 13:29

那请问大侠,我改的那个版本还算规范吗?谢谢! An em dash, or long dash, is used:
[*]in pairs, to mark off information or ideas that are not essential to an understanding of the rest of the sentence:
Thousands of children—like the girl in this photograph—have been left homeless.
My son—where has he gone?—would like to meet you.
[*] to show other kinds of break in a sentence where a comma, semicolon, or colon would be traditionally used:
One thing’s for sure—he doesn’t want to face the truth.
Things have changed a lot in the last year—mainly for the better.

谢谢。我觉得我改的符合第一条。但是要说原作者写的符合第二条,我看着不太像。 本帖最后由 sabrina2111 于 2019-3-29 20:36 编辑
Like commas and parentheses, dash set off parenthetic material such as examples, supplemental facts, and explanatory or descriptive phrases.
如果说原句中“that the mystery might be a little too plain”属于explanatory phrase,那么做时间状语的on the first night he came here又充当什么角色?想想,改成如下的句子更符合第二条吧
Remember that I said to G on the first night he came here -- that the mystery might be a little too plain.
Thank you very much indeed
