Scent味道帮忙讲解下 什么意思.

本帖最后由 WOWWOW 于 2019-4-4 01:17 编辑

Scent tends to call attention to the physical basis of the sense of smell and is particularly appropriate when the emphasis is on the emanations or exhalations from an external object which reach the olfactory receptors rather than on the impression produced in the olfactory centers of the brain

Smell implies solely the sensation without suggestion of quality or character or source:
⇒ an odd smell permeated the room.

Scent applies to the characteristic smell given off by a substance, an animal, or a plant and stresses the source of the sensation: ⇒dogs trained to detect the scent of narcotics.

不是大佬, 但觉得还是可以回答你的问题。
1, 学习英语--如果是阅读方面,你最主要的应该是注意理解,而不是去辨析单词。偶尔你对某些词典异同难以理解,可以记录下来,以备进一步学习。
2,smell, scent.
noun.
sent, 花香,果味等; (人,动物的)独特的气味 . 如
The scent of the suspect lost at the river bank.
smell, 气味(好坏不论); 不好的气味

verb.
scent, 闻到,嗅到 (某人 物 的气味)
The police dog can help to scent the suspects.
A baby can scent his mother.
smell, 散发气味(好坏等)
         It smells good.很香。
         He smells.    他身上有股怪味。他很臭。 等等

klwo2 发表于 2019-4-4 10:02:10

随便找本论坛里面的词典就有啊,比如Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms:

Smell implies solely the sensation without suggestion of quality or character or source:
->an odd smell permeated the room.
Scent applies to the characteristic smell given off by a substance, an animal, or a plant and stresses the source of the sensation:
->dogs trained to detect the scent of narcotics.

往后就是韦氏同义词,use the right word之类的。

smell, fragrance, incense, perfume, flavour, odour, scent

在COCA中的具体操作为`smell_nn*`和`scent_nn*`

You shall know a word by the company it keeps
