作者玩文字游戏，常用词组自然是 cool off。cold off 是调侃。
意思是：恢复期迫使懂王“冰柜式隔离”，对其竞选造势的升温着实不利。
这只是本人的推断，见到纸本杂志就知道真相了。

To cold some off means to make someone cool down from what he/she was zealous/overenthusiastic about, to throw cold water on someone's blanket. The idea fits the context.

No idea. I have never heard of this term before.
See, I am no fan of Trump's. I may do a dictation practice on news concerning him or two, that's when such stories happen to come my way, but I'll definitely not bother to seek out anything about this man.
I say we let go of this one. There are a lot more stories out there that are more interesting and better worth the time.
