《新世纪英汉大词典》contingent词条最大的一个缺点，个人认为，是没有明确给出最常见的形容词解释“可能的”（possible）。
要知道，许多查英汉词典的人，不太再去查EE词典，或许会有人认为，这个形容词没有“可能的”这个含义。

陆老仙的英汉大词典以显著位置给出了“可能的”这个含义。SOED和W3都给出了这个含义。

SOED：
Of uncertain occurrence; liable to happen or not.

W3:
2. : of possible occurrence : likely but not certain to happen
a bogey's alarum of contingent grave results — George Meredith

AHD：
1. Liable to occur but not with certainty; possible: “All salaries are reckoned on contingent as well as on actual services” (Ralph Waldo Emerson).

发现 collins 2015 mdx版中有第5 和第 6 个义项，说明新世纪收录的不全。
