关于一段话的理解，求教！

今天看的一篇介绍Amazon物流中心的文章：

1、官翻有没有问题？ the politics of Amazon, 在这段话中到底指的是什么？
2、“教堂对 21 世纪早期资本主义世界的作用”表达了什么意思？这个有什么相关的历史背景介绍么？简单搜了下，没找到，求达人指点
3、最后一句那个en，是then写错了么。。。

1. The politics和land on放在一起，是要表达一种什么感觉呢？

这是个metaphoric expression。正如二楼klwo2所说，这里的politics是the spectrum of beliefs or values that Amazon upholds or represents，那么你land on这么个spectrum的某处，就表明你identify with Amazon on that specific value或者to a certain, specific degree。

实际上，这句话照应了上一段的最后一句，即亚马逊设定的快递标准有好有坏。

It's a 24-hour process designed to meet the standards ofrapid package delivery the company has — for better and worse — set for theentire e-commerce world.

2. 拿教堂作类比，作者是为了表达这个JFK8对物流业起积极还是消极的作用呢？“教堂之于21世纪资本主义”有什么当前主流的观点么？

Churches are places where people go to worship. 作者作这样的比喻，显然是说这么个配送中心是一个可以“朝拜”亚马逊先进配送科技的地方，也是和下一句animpressive sight to behold照应的，应该是个积极比喻。

那个所谓“教堂之于资本主义”的译法是错的，错误的根源估计在于译者将那句话当成了“Ais to B as (or what) X is to Y”句式。

3. 整句不那么生硬的翻译，应该是怎么样的呢？

【拙译供批评】JFK8配送中心为处于21世纪初的资本主义世界树立了一座丰碑。无论你如何看待亚马逊的企业观，眼前一个个包裹飞速通过复杂的传送系统，准备第二天的投递，确实是一副令人赞叹的景象。

1. politics 取下面的意思:

新牛津:

（常作the politics of）the assumptions or principles relating to or inherent in a sphere, theory, or activity, especially when concerned with power and status in a society （尤指跟社会权力和地位有关的领域、理论或活动的）主张, 观（念）, 原则：9 h5 k3 W: i8 p3 I7 V

性别观。

这个意思当然是从原有的[ 政治 ] 意思引申出来的，所以小编就硬翻了，反正读者也不挑剔，呵呵

2. 「21 世纪早期资本主义世界」，说的就是现在啊，所以：

对21 世纪初的资本主义（今日）世界来说，JFK8……像教堂

3. en route 是一个词：

during the course of a journey; on the way 在途中：; Q7 N" P- S; A
he stopped in Turkey en route to Geneva.% ?* S4 y5 T7 K2 L
他在去日内瓦的途中在土耳其作了停留。

按说21世纪了，教堂应该越来越少了吧

但又跟后面这个 impressive sight to behold（褒义吧）的感觉不太一致……

1. land 这里应该做动词，表示着陆。
2. 亚马逊是美国的公司，而美国在西方世界中，去教堂做礼拜的人数比例是最高的（https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_attendance），教堂还是很重要的。不过英语作者的某些比喻有时候很难看出其逻辑。

我已经说了，「the world of early 21st century capitalism」就是当今世界，那作者为什么要用这个短语来指称呢，无非是要突出「资本」「时代」这样的元素

techcrunch.cn 的译文跟大多数IT文章一样，属于只求大意正确、不求质量达标的速食面，楼主还是少依赖这样的文章学英语吧

2,  what do you mean by "amazon politics"? Do you mean every aspect of amazon?
3,  "complex highway systems of conveyor belts" -- do you mean the conveyor belts within JFK8 center, or the real state/inter-state highway networks? If it's the latter, what's special between JFK8 center and complex highway systems? Every piece at an amazon fulfillment center, whichever center it is, will eventually be transported via the compelx highway systems to a customer. Why it's special here and you point it out?
4， Can you please, if it's not too trouble, rewrite these few sentences in very basic language, without any metaphor?

如果作者是英国人，你也许要用更正规一些的语言： Dear ...; I wonder ...; Best regards ..., etc.

我个人对这几句话感到茫然难解。
一般而言，一段话的起始是 topic sentence。接下来展开，或证明，或解释，等等。而比喻，应该是用来帮助读者理解的，而不是相反。

感谢您的详细点评，翻译自洽流畅，学习了。唯一有一点儿儿觉得不太明白的，还是这个"教堂"+"21世纪"。。

恕我愚钝，我还是没明白突出「资本」「时代」是为啥。。

这个网站主要是有中英对照，方便我这种初级水平。再加上不用扶qiang……
