请教形容词作状语的问题

This time we were shown the fact that everything attracts everything else, pure and simple.
这里的pure and simple 修饰动词were shown,那么可以用purely and simply吗？为什么要用形容词作状语呢？和副词作状语有什么区别？

你这么一说我也觉得像，不过书上写的是做副词。但是话又说回来，中国人写的书不一定全对。就想问问，既然有副词，为什么又整出个形容词做副词来，两者有什么区别？

- S0 y9 Q; P& v0 f& u8 `; o此处形容词修饰的是the three of them，表示主语本身的一种状态。改写一下，其实就相当于After the long journey, the three of them went back home; they were hungry and tired.
1 l( f" q/ [1 }若是改用副词hungrily and tiredly，表示的是go back home这个动作的一个状态。
/ r9 H0 z0 y3 @' O( J& F两者相较，前一种表示本身状态的表达更合乎直觉。
* {: i# q( m/ q/ F) B
附上 夸克《英语语法大全》和《朗文英语口语和笔语语法》的内容，供参考。形容词还是形容词，并没有作副词。

it: stands for three "that" clauses,
repeated is the "it's" predicate part.

I find my purse gone. here, gone modifies the purse, not I.

原文中的repeated是非谓语动词的用法，是过去分词repeated作宾语it的宾语补足语。
所以从句子成分上来分析，repeated的东西是这个it

) j& j9 m0 F& `9 C% f$ K如果你用repeatedly，则是副词修饰谓语动词heard，即You've repeatedly heard it.
句意就变成了“听”这个动作repeated，而不是其他什么说的话之类的东西repeated。
2 v/ g3 Q+ a9 E: f3 s
. d; F- z) T! j0 J! H- J2 G  V所以这里使用repeated，还是repeatedly，也许从句意的本质上没有变化，因为说的话重复了，实际就是听的动作重复了。
2 E. D1 z5 ?! z6 @, X& y但从语言的精确度上，两种表达方式的内在含义是截然不同的。

用repeated侧重的是it所指代的观点的普遍性；用repeatedly侧重于听者动作的重复，或许欲引出听者的情绪或感受？。一个在观点，一个在人。
