友以成德也，人而无友，则孤陋寡闻，德不能成矣；学以愈愚也，人而不学，则昏昧无知，愚不能愈矣。

Having friends can help you to cultivate virtue. Without friends, you would remain ill-informed and thus unable to live a virtuous life.
Study can help you to cure you natural foolishness. Without study, you would remain ignorant and your foolishness would be left intact.
