a word of advice to 楼主： take a step back and see the bigger picture. don't be preoccupied with hair-splitting parsing of sentences to the neglect of what these sentences want to get  across. more often than not, if you can understand what a sentence is all about, you will have a pretty good idea of its structure, although this is not strictly necessary.

对我来说没有背景知识的我压根就找不到比较对象。如果as作为副词，用来比较这种用法说不通，我就会比较抓狂，放弃语法从上下文中想。我觉得这里如果把as改成so,语法上就跟说的通了。我一开始是把gas-fired heating和cooking 同风能和太阳能比的。后来看到一个坛友和coal比，我就百度了，发现风能和太阳能算renewable的。所以背景知识很重要。
