有一个翻译方面的见解：

advertisement，释义2，
[c]~ for sth 广告（样）品 an example of sth that shows its good qualities
Dirty streets and homelessness are no advertisement for a prosperous society.
肮脏的街道和无家可归现象绝不是繁荣社会的景象。

这还翻译成“广告(样)品” 恐怕不妥吧？
“典范”、“体现”、“活生生的例子”，等等似乎更佳。

“咖哩”应为“咖喱”。
>《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》（第 8 版）出现了 10 余处“咖喱”，出现了 1 处“咖哩”。
第 8 版简体、繁体&第 7 版繁体： Use any leftover meat to make a curry. 要是有剩肉就做咖哩菜。
第 7 版简体： Use any leftover meat to make a curry. 要是有剩肉就做咖喱菜。
所以这处错误，源自繁体版，第 7 版简体版校对过来了，第 8 版简体则没有校对过来，app 版也是“咖哩”。

8版是这样的：
I am not altogether happy(= I am very unhappy) about the decision.
我对这个决定很不满意。

9版（英文版）和8版相同。

7版是这样的：
I am not altogether happy about the decision. 我对这个决定并不十分满意。

我比照其他词典，基本上“not altogether”的释义是：“not completely不完全”
如此看下来OALD8、9版括号里面的“(= I am very unhappy)”感觉是画蛇添足，意思完全变了。

在牛津 8 当中出了“巨头鲸”专有名词外，其他的表示产业大都写成了“钜头”。查了一下，钜通巨。并且在 7 版当中 crossfire 词条下 industrial giants翻译为“工业巨头”，在 8 版中修订为“钜头”。

The example Vik cites is an ironic use of this phrase, not its basic meaning. Of course someone to whom those awful things have happened would be miserable, far from completely happy. The "chappie" in the passage Vik quotes is using the phrase as a kind of exaggeration for dramatic effect. But in ordinary use, "not altogether" = not completely.

嘿嘿，这是简体和繁体之别，如果是 mdx 的话，牛高 8 双解 mdx 简体本质还是繁体的文字内容，是机器转换而非人工转换。
查证了下，实际纸版第 8 版，https://cn.bing.com/dict/search?q=crossfire

繁体是：

有的 mdx ，因为用的简繁转换程序有问题， “鉅頭”转成了“钜头”，所以给人带来困惑，实际纸版、app 等，没有“钜头”的。

所以，mdx 的话，我一般用的还是繁体，或者至少是保留了原始数据的繁简切换版。

纽约网友Parla解释非常到位。

任何词句都可以看作夸张的反讽，但这属于文学用法，要结合上下文语境的即context才能正确理解。
实际对话中，估计还得加上“air quotes”兔耳手势。
堂堂牛津，这样的例句前面不加【讽刺用法】语法标签，仅仅加粗字体，会给使用者造成困扰甚至误导。
一开始我看到“not altogether”加粗字体，自然反应“这多半是idiom吧”，但比照其他词典“没发现啊”。

quick fix在这里不是“即时解决”，整个句子（我个人觉得）应该翻译成“钢铁行业的问题没有**简单的解决办法。”

O 大, 能麻烦你用 App 搜下 "须要" (不是 "必须要") 这个词是什么情况吗? 我感觉可能会有处理问题.
从**advanced level**这个词条来看, "须要" 也不能算错, 但纸版书改成了 "需要", 个人感觉句子的意思有所变化了...
在<<现代汉语规范词典>>中, "须要" 这个词是存在的; 而且纸版书里, "须要" 这个用法也多次出现, **advanced level**词条中的更改感觉并不必要.

觉得这样的直译让人一头雾水，直接改成“过于乐观地看世界”是否可行呢？

gauge 词条下，例句和翻译：
They interviewed employees to gauge their reaction to the changes.
他们与雇员面谈以判定他们的应变能力。
认为把 reaction to the changes 翻译成“应变能力”不妥。
这样听起来有点像考察员工的“个人素质”。我查“应变能力”主要翻译有以下几个：
capacity to handle change
the capability to change
adaptability to changes
认为这儿直接翻译成“...判定他们对这些改变的反应”即可。
脑补一个场景，比如说公司的薪资制度改了，然后民调一下，看反应是积极或者消极。

squeeze 词条下，名词解释 5 说指 "a boyfriend or girlfriend 男朋友；女朋友"。给出的例句：
Who's his main squeeze? 他最要好的女朋友是谁？
“最要好的女朋友”听起来就很别扭了——难道还有“要好女朋友”、“一般女朋友”……？
查了朗文解释是这样写的 somebody’s (main) squeeze: especially American English informal someone’s boyfriend or girlfriend 某人的男[女]朋友
故牛津这里翻译为“他的女朋友是谁？”即可。

只是觉得翻译成“最要好的女朋友”不妥，“最要好”有点太不够意思了吧？——最要好的女性朋友我倒是完全接受。

套用优乐美的广告：我是你的什么？你是我最要好的女朋友。啊？原来我只是“最要好”的女朋友啊···

即使像《韦氏词典》当中解释的 main boyfriend or girlfriend，私以为 main 更偏向于“最重要的”，而不是“最要好的”，如果引申的话，那就是“挚爱的”。
ODE 当中的例句：
1. Their songs were tailor-made for top-down summer twilight drives through Fairmount Park with your main squeeze.
2. Now, Adele, who was once his main squeeze and still carries a torch for him, must convince him to give up his drinking and start swinging the clubs again.
3. Ever been through a horrendous break up with your main squeeze and felt lonely, upset, tired and unloved?
这些例句当中的 main squeeze 我觉得翻译成“男/女朋友”——如果真要纠结于 main 的话，则“挚爱(的男/女朋友)”——即可。
饱受翻译诟病的《新牛津》是这样翻的，觉得还不错：
the poor guy just lost his main squeeze.
这个可怜的家伙刚刚失恋了。
也查了 free dictionary 当中的解释:

在 embark 词条下，它的名词 embarkation 给出这样的例句。
Embarkation will be at 14:20 hours.
上船时间是 14:20。
因为不明白 hours 在这儿的作用，所以查了一下：
8. hours [pl.] used when giving the time according to the 24-hour clock, usually in military or other official language （按 24 小时制给出的时间，通常用于军事或其他官方用语）点钟
The first missile was launched at 2300 hours (= at 11 p.m.).
首枚导弹是在 23 点（晚上 11 点）发射的。
HELP This is pronounced ‘23 hundred hours’. 这要读作 23 hundred hours。

在 hours 这个例子当中因为读作 23 hundred hours 所以写的时候直接写成了 2300(而非23:00)。所以想在 embarkation 这个例句当中的 14:20 应该写作 1420。
